The protestations of Orville London in respect of the call by the AG and the Minister of Finance for accounts of monies spent on certain schemes reminds me of the boy who has been caught with his hands in the cookie jar and who is protesting his innocence. Me thinks he doth protest too much.
London must be reminded that while he has a certain measure of independence within the unitary state of T&T, he also has a measure of responsibility to the Central Government and to the people of Tobago for the way he spends the money from the treasury.
He has to disburse it in a manner which will benefit the people of Tobago. In this respect the Milsherv deal which will suck up over $300 million of taxpayers' money would bring no material advantages to the poor Tobagonians who live on the borderline of poverty.
One party will be laughing all the way to the bank with hundreds of millions while the people of Tobago eke out a meager existence with the high food prices and the total neglect of their agricultural potential. It is about time that the Chief Secretary and the PNM wake up to the needs of their own people and stop putting money in the hands of private businessmen.
