Congratulations Mr Attorney General on the successful outcome of the arbitration with BAE Systems. We the people deserve it! This is the People's Partnership's first successful venture of note. However, you and your government have a long road to go to overcome the distrust you have engendered to date.
The Children's Life Fund does not count. The funds received from ministers' salaries over the last two years appear to be in limbo and the fund's management is not fulfilling its mandate of timely assistance to children in need.
From where I sit, your party's actions on assuming office were geared toward the deliberate dismantling/allowing to fall into disrepair the initiatives undertaken by the previous administration, including Mr Warner's demand that all board members resign forthwith regardless of good job performance and its impact on citizens. None of you put country first!
You, therefore, cannot convince me that the OPV deal did not fall into the category of throwing the baby out with the bath water. A legal loophole through which to extricate yourselves was needed and your manoeuvre was fruitful.
Now, enough with the ridiculous PNM-bashing. It is so puerile. Your party is the Government of the day now. Fulfill your promises to the people. Implementation of the recommendations of the Uff Commission would be a significant milestone and an excellent beginning.
Gimmicks such as the temporary removal of VAT on a contrived list of quasi-food items do not count. Nor does the Debe to Mon Desir extension which lacks a feasibility study. I sincerely hope for all our sakes that this arbitration award is a foretaste of things to come and not another anomalous event in the Partnership's reign.
