Photograph in poor taste

This letter is in response to a photo that was published on page A24 of the Trinidad Guardian (January 1) entitled Savannah Bath taken by Mr Brian Ng Fatt. To say that this photograph was in poor taste is an understatement.
Here we have a man who may not have access to running water at home, who may not even be so privileged to have a home, or so fortunate to have the luxury of privacy.
We have started to treat our own privacy as if it is a God-given right, along with the right to access water, food, clothing and a home.
Yet there are those without any of those things. Must we be so hardened to the plight of others that we can so easily take away their privacy?
There is no story or reason for the photograph. The subject is not exposing himself or breaking the law.
He is fully clothed, wearing a tattered jersey and a violated expression.
He was decent enough to not strip in public so there is no need to strip him of whatever dignity he may have.
Was there nothing else to publish for New Year’s Day?
Surely there are more pressing matters that deserve to be photographed in Trinidad and Tobago.
