Your article by Sascha Wilson of Wednesday 23, page A11, prompts me to sound a warning to student bloggers and the media to pay particular attention to the diversionary tactics of our more astute politicians whose polished arts of gimmickry and posturing could escape the unsuspecting.
The Chairman of the COP, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan attempted to side step the issue of the Muradali incident by openly chastising student bloggers for choosing to remain anonymous, as is their right, in their calls for action on the matter.
The main issue, however, was the alleged misbehaviour in public of the San Fernando Mayor and until the facts are presented, the public will continue to speculate, anonymously and otherwise; the latter, all the more so, because of fear of victimisation.
The minister has therefore "tried a thing" and only succeeded in compounding the problem by seeking to highlight the issue of anonymity of bloggers. In addition, she stated that she has a serious problem with anonymous bloggers but the minister should be aware that her snobbishness towards students and the media is not becoming of her office.
