Seeing your front-page picture of a bandit, complete with blood-soaked shirt, being bundled into the back of a police pickup last week reminded me to write about the "bad boy" dress code that seems to be the required look nowadays. If we enforced the country's indecent exposure law then showing one's underwear in public would be an offense. This would go a long way in getting all these "bad boys" processed and into the system.
They would have to find another way to look and act bad and this should give the law abiders the upper hand while they come up with a new style.Once their underpants are showing, pull them over, rub them down and give them a warning. Second time, take them down and process them. The name of the game is keeping one step ahead.
A simple case of locking up a few of these "bad boys" for the weekend for wearing their pants down to their thighs would go a long way in sending them the right message. The same way the police have a light metre to check for illegal tint, they could also have a ruler, so anyone whose pants waist is too low and exposes more than two inches of underwear in public would be charged.
They would not be able to be "bad" anymore. To me, this would be constructive police harassment.
