I am still trying to grapple with the fact that Monday's inauguration of the country's fifth Head of State was devoid of a single schoolchild from Tobago. Some Tobago students, teachers and principals were given the impression that they would have been flown to Trinidad to be part of history, courtesy the THA, via the Division of Education.
Hopes were dashed and egos deflated when, up to Monday at noon, nary a word concerning this trip was forthcoming.I cry shame on the Division of Education in Tobago for this faux pas, one that has left a very sour taste in the mouths of Tobagonians, especially our dear students.Upon investigation, the Division has levelled blame on principals, who they claim were tardy in getting names to travel in on time for flight bookings.
Whatever the reason, there is simply no excuse on the part of the Division of Education (THA), since the date intended for this historic event, was announced way in advance.Under the circumstances, I think the Division of Education should publicly offer an apology to Tobago's educators and students.
