The recent fire at the business at Bamboo could have been averted if the fire tenders were allowed to proceed freely. They were not, due to traffic, narrow road and bad parking! There is a definite need to construct another exit, which was proposed before, by extending Jaffar Street eastwards, exiting at Valsayn Teachers' College.
This is a call to the powers that be, to seriously consider the proposed second exit/entrance from Bamboo #2. Bamboo 1 and 3 each has extra exits with no traffic, even in the midst of the overpass construction.
The traffic in Bamboo #2 is overbearing with over 50 car parts businesses, two schools, two restaurants and a few manufacturing companies. Most of the time exit to the highway is hampered by bad parking, one narrow road and too many cars. At most times emergency vehicles cannot enter or leave. Residents have suffered as a result, while the businessmen encourage touting, further causing traffic.
The proposed exit road was scrapped when Jack Warner demitted his last office. He had promised to build it.
I wonder if the PNM was back in power if we would have got the exit road? Residents voted for this!
