It never ceases to amaze me how simple problems that cause us unnecessary inconveniences continue to prevail without solutions. I am referring to the car park at Maracas Bay and the simple problem of the back-up of cars on the main road that it causes because of the location of the entrance and the system that is used.
To begin with, why must we pay to park at Maracas? Surely as taxpayers (some of us) we deserve some sort of public benefit from the Government, added to which, if people didn't have to pay then many more would use the car park and not park on the side of the road.
Be that as it may, I suggest that the main entrance be moved further inside the car park, away from the road (creating a sort of "holding bay" inside instead of on the road) as many inconsiderate motorists on entering, tend to stop in the middle of the road waiting on the car in front to move up while turning in, blocking traffic both going and coming.
Although the process of paying the parking attendant on entering might only take a minute or less per car, on a day like Easter Sunday, with 20 to 30 cars coming down the hill it could create quite a back-up as it did last Sunday. The big question is–whose responsibility is it to act on problems like this? Is he or she taking note of this, and do they even care if there is a traffic jam at Maracas given that they probably never go there.
Another suggestion is to have patrons pay when leaving the car park, so they enter freely (or at least more freely than they do now) and have two exits at which they pay on leaving (as done at the airport). Patrons don't usually leave at the same time as they do on arrival. The point is–there must be some sort of solution to this problem (before it gets worse) that should be addressed instead of just leaving it as it is indefinitely.
