It seems as if this country is stuck in the twilight zone or is some sort of a demon-possessed state where the people are so ingrained in the corrupt, law-breaking lifestyle and inefficient administration that we will never move forward. There are people who, from experience, will tell you how easy it is to get a driver's permit or licence a derelict or stolen vehicle without going through the legal channels.
There are cases of fraud and blatant theft (and I have personally experienced one such case) where one bank has photos of a female making illegal withdrawals from another person's account at an ATM machine without the card owner's approval, and 14 months later nothing has happened although the fraud squad has all the necessary evidence.
Why not?
After all, there are much bigger cases involving much more money and corruption that have been knocked around like a football for years, that to ignore the minor ones seems to be the accepted norm in our society now.
Men still stopping to urinate on any wall or fence that they see fit, drivers zooming on the inside shoulder to beat a line of traffic as no police or traffic wardens are around, people throwing garbage out of movingvehicle, pedistrians doing the same, vagrants not being cared for and causing littering problems, guns and drugs prevalent, people killing people just so, an Opposition that opposes even positive moves, etc. etc.
I could go on and on. We could actually match strides with countries that have ten times our population. What a sick sad society we have become, and with all of our inefficenies we want to compare ourselves to developed civilised countries. How ignorant. But wait–we have Carnival, and 14 other holidays for us to lime party, drink and drive, chutney, parang, soca, pan, beach and river lime, and great food. What more can we want? How many other countries can boast of being better than us?
If you still feel the situation is nice, then welcome to paradise.
