In 2006 the COP came into being on strong principles of good governance and illuminated the way for the new politics of integrity and transparency. In the People's Partnership it held the hopes of all who hankered after strong principles of good governance. It was to be the conscience of the People's Partnership, but alas the inexorable descent into corruption, mismanagement and patronage has rendered it ineffective to carry out the mandate of Mr Winston Dookeran.
It has now become the "B team" of the UNC, having descended into the murky depths of bad governance. In the present situation where chaos and confusion reign supreme, it must find its way out and reassert the principles on which it was founded–truth and honesty. The People's Partnership needs leadership to guide it out of the morass in which it has found itself.
The COP must provide the leadership necessary to break out of the strangulating influence that has rendered it ineffective.
