I am 33 years old and a mother of two beautiful daughters, ages 13 and seven, respectively. I currently reside at my parent's home in Laventille. I applied for a three-bedroom single family unit with Housing Development Corporation predecessor National Housing Authority approximately 13 years ago. My reference number is 37312-QAK-YWJ and 37312-GEQ-TKG. I also applied for the Land for the Landless programme in December, 2012.
It is with a heavy heart that I pen this letter owing mainly to the fact that I applied for a house so many years ago and I sit and watch as people who would have just applied and after two and three years have received houses. I was also taken aback after writing to all the necessary agencies a few years ago when the roof of my mother's house blew off and was told that a person from the social welfare department would visit me and an investigation would be launched to see if I qualify for urgent housing. To date that has never happened.
I went to HDC and enquired and was told the person who was assigned left the job and no one else was appointed to conduct the investigation. I even met personally with Ms Jearlean John who told me that she would appoint someone in her welfare department to investigate my application. To date I have never been contacted. My visits to HDC proved futile since the only information I received after sitting for long periods is that I am awaiting selection.
I am totally frustrated and saddened by this because I have sent out many letters and visited both HDC and Social Welfare Department and I would continue to do so until my voice is heard.
I really don't know who again to ask for help seeing that I have written to almost everyone in light of my plea. I pray day and night that someone would hear my cry and help me to be able to own my home. I attempted to purchase a house in the private sector but I cannot afford the required down payment and have been refused by the financial institutions.
Ms Williams,
Laventille
