If Government does not act swiftly to curb the flood of businesses operating in residential areas throughout T&T we will all be in court fighting for our rights to enjoyment of property like the residents of Woodbrook are now doing. Imagine we have to fight for peace and quiet in our own homes, that we have sacrificed and paid for, over many years! Some of us specifically chose our lot due to the non-main road access, for the sole reason that there would not be vehicular traffic all day.
People buy and sell properties and under the pretext that they are purchasing for a residence, then lo and behold they are running a business, with vans and 4x4 vehicles travelling up and down, all day long, Monday to Friday and sometimes on Saturday. This poses risks for residents, due to the constant traffic of people unknown to the residents, some of whom have been there for over 30 years.
To add insult to injury there is the risk of burglars who feel that there is money on the premises and therefore they can take a chance and enter with guns blazing, putting residents in danger.I am pleading with the minister responsible to do something and enforce the law before we all become like Woodbrook. We have a right to enjoy our property without being bombarded with vehicular traffic and strangers in our neighbourhood.
Businesses should be in commercial areas and not in residential. The small parlour and doctor's office are the exceptions as these are essential in remote areas, but the established companies/bars etc, should not be allowed to invade residential communities. Is it that the lawless are running this country, and are holding the rest of the law abiding citizens to ransom? Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, you promised us a change, where is it?
