The recently concluded motion of no-confidence raises important issues, if examined impartially.First is the issue of confidentiality. If these e-mails are true then someone has committed a criminal offence in hacking into the computers of the prime minister and the attorney general and therefore should be prosecuted.
The second issue is the veracity of these e-mails. If they are manufactured then the leader of the opposition has committed a criminal parliamentary act. If they are true then the government is even more guilty of many more criminal offences. The third issue is why should these people be sending e-mails to each other when they meet on a daily basis. This goes against the grain of normal behaviour. So the whole issue is totally confusing and however one looks at it, it is totally unreasonable.
We speak glibly about democracy but democracy demands a bit of responsibility in dealing with sensitive issues. It clearly shows that our parliamentarians do not know the first thing about the running of a democratic state.Perhaps it is about time we bring back the British and throw our independent constitution in the garbage dump to where our Parliament has brought it.
