Jack Warner must not be viewed in isolation as this issue surrounding him is almost identical to the UNC's former leader, Basdeo Panday who had said he had become politically unattractive–winning his and his safe seats but unable to go beyond.
Mr Warner did the proper thing by relinquishing all official positions, but contesting a by-election and winning will not absolve him of any present perception and may instead serve to hinder the government's chances of retaining office. He delayed his public defence at his own peril and must now use his time to immediately institute legal action against his accusers thus clearing the way for 2015.
The UNC cannot wait for him. The report by the imminent Sir David Simmons was not clear on how Concacaf survived and grew to strength, and words used such as "may have" and "probably" poses certain questions; nor did it guide the reader on what was the practice within FIFA.
It can be viewed that Sepp Blatter is using the now retired Jack Warner as the whipping boy to show that FIFA has changed its corrupt ways, where wheeling and dealing had no referee and linesmen, and the T&TFA and Concacaf will intelligently distance themselves from Warner, the one-time godfather of local football. But Jack Warner may yet sit on the throne were he would write his biography of FIFA, even if one gets the feeling that his problems were generated from a more powerful office.
