Per­mit me to share a very dis­tress­ing event with your read­ers. On Sun­day June 16 at around 5 pm a WASA mains rup­tured just out­side my prop­er­ty at St Au­gus­tine.Wa­ter was gush­ing out and on­to my premis­es threat­en­ing to flood out a ground-lev­el apart­ment.I made one call to WASA and one to the hot­line of the Of­fice of Dis­as­ter Pre­pared­ness.

With­in one hour a team was dis­patched to rec­ti­fy the prob­lem.The of­fi­cer at the ODPM called to in­form that the emer­gency was be­ing ad­dressed and en­quire if fur­ther as­sis­tance was re­quired.A spe­cial thank you to the of­fi­cers on call in these two util­i­ties at that time. It was a first-world-lev­el re­sponse.
