The National Infrastructure Company (Nidco) in its infinite wisdom and after much thought and planning has advised motorists wishing to proceed to Grand Bazaar from the west that the right-turn traffic lights at the Uriah Butler intersection have been turned off.
Two routes have been suggested, firstly left towards the Mt Hope Hospital on winding, incomplete roads, around the new roundabout, then south to the east-west traffic lights at the said intersection; secondly east through intersection traffic light No 1, then a U-turn at the Valsayn traffic light No 2.However motorists using both routes will encounter traffic lights, and the time on green of the lights required to facilitate the changes has not been lengthened to accommodate the increased traffic.
The best route, with no traffic lights, is to go over the existing overpass heading south which has the first advantage of avoiding the bottleneck encountered when making the left turn towards Mt Hope. Then go around the Caroni overpass after Grand Bazaar, head back north and take the ramp/overpass into Grand Bazaar. This route may be a wee bit longer, but much faster and less stressful.
Nidco failed to notify motorists that the changes also affect those proceeding to Bamboo Settlements No 1 and 3. Further, although new signs to guide motorists have been posted, the large blue sign "Keep right for Bamboo 1 & 3" remains in place.
