Liat’s service disappoints
Liat continues to be the worst airline in the world. Your slogan should be “we never fail to disappoint.” My son flew to Grenada from Trinidad on Sunday, August 11. We paid US$69 for an additional bag since Liat does not offer the same service of two pieces of luggage for students as Caribbean Airlines does. He arrived in Grenada and yes, you guessed it, no bags came—not the allowed one piece of luggage nor the paid-for additional piece. And, of course, calls to Liat from that moment until the end of the day went unanswered.
Finally someone answered the phone on Monday morning and we were told something about due to weight and balance the bags did not go, and I’m sitting here thinking “they must think that passengers are real fools to accept this nonsense that they are saying to us.” The Liat official went further to say they didn’t know when the bags would arrive but that we will get them off as soon as they got the weight and balance correct. That translates: “We have absolutely no idea when your son will get his bags.” Doesn’t Liat know that this same situation happens every year around this time? Isn’t Liat aware that with so many people on board, only so many bags can go? Isn’t there one person in Liat management who can find a resolution to this perennial problem?
But an even more pertinent question is why do students have to suffer for Liat’s unending mistakes? Why do the students have to lose food that their families cooked for them to facilitate their transition as they struggle to manage university and life? Why, Liat executive, do the students have to lose time going back and forth to the airport, incurring expenses taking taxis for which they are not reimbursed? Why do the students have to stay in the same clothing they travelled with from home for three or more days? Why must the students suffer added stress for loss of baggage in addition to the stress they are encountering for the first few days in college? Can you, Liat executive, answer these questions? I await your response to my questions.
