I wish to support the suggestion contained in Mr Ramcharan's letter which was published in your newspaper recently, that there be "a complete overhaul of the judicial system."As usual, some judges were honoured with Independence Day awards, but what has any of them done to deserve any praise or reward whatsoever?
We have had a pathetic judicial system for many years now, yet those who preside over it have done nothing to improve the situation. They sit day after day accepting any excuse to put off cases, over and over whilst pretending to be all high and mighty. They love their silly annual ceremonial openings, having enjoyed a long "summer" recess with full pay and additional perks–a relic of colonial times–which make them feel important.
It is time that the robes which cloak the reality of the judiciary be removed and the truth laid bare, as few people receive justice in this country any more.
