We are not all fools, Mr Howai
We are not fools. We are not all fools. I include our Caricom neighbours, especially the OECS. We are fools if we believe the Minister of Finance who said in his budget presentation that the fuel subsidy to CAL will cease, however, the airfares will not increase.
Now tell us Mr Howai, for an airline already in dire straits, you will remove the fuel subsidy and yet the airfares will remain the same? Oh, how I wish the renowned mathematician and physicist, Dr Rudranath Capildeo, was still alive to explain this phenomenon to us simple souls. No, Mr Howai. That move is intended to stymie the court proceedings that are coming from the OECS, led by the PM of St Vincent, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, concerning the fuel subsidy to CAL and none to LIAT.
The fuel subsidy that will be removed from CAL will now come under a different name called “transfers” as the airline’s deficit continues to get higher and higher due to wastage.
