Seniors deserve better meals
I have had the opportunity to visit, on several occasions, both friends and family in about five different senior citizens’ homes. While their surroundings have for the most part been up to par, the meals that are being served leave much to be desired.
It must be stated that usually the staff at these homes demonstrate great love, patience and understanding, not only to the residents under their care, but also to their visitors. But, residents are hardly served well-balanced meals. Vegetables, fruit, meat and fish are a rare sight. Plus, the mall portions can hardly satisfy adult appetites. Could the Division of Ageing:
• Make unannounced visits to these homes at meal times, especially lunch and dinner time, to see the quality and quantity of the fare given?
• Make recommendations via the print and electronic media as to what constitutes a nutritious and inexpensive meal for this ageing group?
Please, our seniors deserve better.
