The COP Youth Congress wishes to extend heartfelt congratulations to local soca artist Ian "Bunji Garlin" Alvarez on winning the 2013 Soul Train Award for Best International Performance. We would also like to sincerely congratulate soca artiste Machel Montano on being nominated for the same award. The Soul Train Awards are produced by major entertainment network, BET, based in the United States of America. The 2013 Soul Train Awards was taped on November 8 and aired on December 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It is indeed a progressive day for T&T entertainment to have two of our most talented artistes recognised by such a significant international entertainment agency. The fact that Bunji Garlin received the award over all other nominated artistes speaks volumes about his talent, his potential, and the immense contribution that he has made and can continue to make to the advancement of soca music.
Bunji Garlin was nominated for his 2013 hit Differentology. Bunji Garlin ousted major international performers such as recording artiste Emeli Sande from Scotland, recording duo P Square from Nigeria and Nigerian pop star Iyanya. The fact that both Bunji Garlin and Machel Montano were nominated for Best International Performer signals to the local and global entertainment and cultural circuits that there is a growing space and demand for T&T soca music across the world.
The COP Youth Congress sends its sincerest wishes to Bunji Garlin and his team on this achievement, and also congratulates the wider local entertainment fraternity in this milestone achievement in the life of soca music.
