I do not know Ryan Rampersad, but I have been following his progress in the newspapers since he was seriously injured in the Sea Lots accident.I do not know Dr Peter Poon King either, but I would like to take this opportunity to commend him for his dedication. When Ryan was transferred to the St James Medical Complex in July, he was totally unresponsive and in a vegetative state.
Now he is speaking, though his speech is slurred and his memory has returned and he is moving his limbs. Dr Poon King knew that with the correct approach to his recuperation, Ryan would make miraculous strides in his recovery. His vision clearly inspires the other health workers at that institution.
I would like to thank Dr Poon King for all that he is doing for the patients at that institution, and I pray that young doctors, many of whom see medicine as a money-making profession, will see through his fine example, that the ability to practice medicine, is in fact a divine calling for the benefit of those who are in need of healing.
I would like also to commend the family of this young man for never giving up hope, and for continuing to be there at his side. They are examples of love and support for other families in similar circumstances to follow.
