As the Bail Amendment Bill proceeds to Senate next week may I request, if not the Opposition Senators, the Independent Senators to dedicate enough time and thought into this Bill, to bear in mind the lives of the innocents that are lost, the victims' families and their rights?Recent headlines quoted the bereaved daughter of the couple murdered in Cedros, "Bring back the death penalty!" Also quoted was the brother who appealed to the authorities to bring the army out to fight crime.
If this is what the public wants, why can't we give we to them? I am no lawyer but if it is a clause or something blocking these things from becoming law, why can't the people we put in the Parliament to serve sort out their differences?I am fed up of the crime situation and my heart hurts whenever I see another person becoming a statistic.Though we are exploring all measures possible nothing is coming out of it. How long are we going to sit and think and say stupid things like, "Well soldiers trained to kill." Isn't the bandit doing the same?
I feel as though I am paying for the wayward choices of a few and I am the real one serving time behind bars.
