The Minister of Education has been discouraging parents from giving children drinks with high sugar contents in an effort to curb the scourge of obesity. Good suggestion. He has joined the Minister of Health in his call for a healthy lifestyle. However, what about the doubles and "fried pies" that are the regular breakfast fare for so many children? I frequently observe parents purchasing the pies or doubles or see the children walking with the greasy bags.
Parents, it is certainly cheaper to prepare breakfast for your children and instead of buying doubles or pies, try purchasing fruits for them. They would grow to appreciate you for this. The National Parent/Teachers Association should also play a part in this even though, from observation, the parents who should hear this are the ones who do not attend PTA meetings. We should still make an effort to reach the parents and rear healthy children.
