The North Coast Primary Schools Games were held at Toco Secondary School's grounds on March 16. At the games Salybia Government Primary ended Toco AC Primary's decade-long hold on the championships."This is the first time Salybia Government School has won the game which is a major achievement since the school's population is just about 60," said School Supervisor Chris Metivier. The North Coast Primary Schools' Games consist of track and field events that are trials for the National Primary Schools' Athletic events.
The games mean a great deal to the North Coast Communities, Metivier said, and "teachers, principals, past principals, they really rally together. They put forth a great effort to ensure the children have a great day despite the many challenges."The North Coast consists of a number of rural communities, and as such it faces the lack of resources typical of those areas, Metivier said. "The Ministry of Education North East District really appreciates the support blink | bmobile has given over the years."
Toco AC's principal and co-ordinator of the games, Marvin Joseph said: "The games link the community and the schools through sport. People really look forward to the event and everybody comes out to support his or her school. It's a sort of family affair."
