The Minister of the People would by now be the butt of jokes, and quite rightly so. In any part of the world a passenger who is deemed disruptive on an airplane is carted off to the nearest police station. This behaviour exposes a level of illiteracy that is most times hidden by academic qualifications. Being fatigued is not acceptable as justification for such an act. Clearly this smacks of an abuse of position so much so that the call made by the Maha Sabha is most appropriate and the Prime Minister should firmly discipline this minister.
If ministers of government do not appreciate nor respect their positions in the country then it is incumbent upon the Prime Minister to protect the integrity of her Cabinet and her political party and she must do so knowing that the entire community is watching. One act has the potential to expose many others which may have been otherwise kept quiet and the greatest respect must also be given in acknowledging the flight attendant's humility in having such an undignified act committed upon her person.
The police have disclosed that no investigation will be forthcoming but if it is within the purview of the Integrity Commission then it should inquire into this matter.
