On Saturday my precious little dog Jet, was mauled to death by two pit bulls, while I was walking her and my other dog in Diamond Vale. The pit bulls easily ran through an old rusted gate, rushed past me and viciously ripped into my small pompek. I screamed and screamed and screamed for help, and no one came. I grabbed up my other dog and quickly left, fearing they would turn their attention to us. I ran for safety into my aunt's place which was about five houses away. The owner of the pit bulls eventually came outside after neighbours called out. The owner did not even have the physical capability or authority to get his own dogs back in their own yard on his own; the neighbours had to do it. The owner's response to what his dogs did: "Well, people should not be walking their dogs."
Anyone who knows me and my family knows that our pets are not just pets to us. That little dog was born literally in my mother's and my hands as we had to help deliver her. She was a precious member of my family and her loss has us devastated. While I can't erase the sight, smell and sound of the horrific scene from that incident, I am glad that it wasn't one of the many children and people who pass in front of that house. It could have even been me. That house is on the same street as a primary school, about 300 yards away. If the pit bulls had killed a child maybe his response would have been, "Well, people should not have children."Please note that this was reported to the police. At the time of this post, as far as we know, no action has been taken whatsoever. Dangerous Dogs Bill, where are you?
