The actions and mentality of many T&T citizens are worse than Third World. A logo on a mini bus that transports children for the Memisa Institute. On it were the words Trinidad and Tobago Association for retarded children. The first time I saw this logo I questioned the driver. I have since seen it on polo shirts the parents of these children had on and I pointed it out to them. This was some time early last year. The logo is still on the bus and parents still put on these jerseys with the distasteful writing on the logo.
When I saw the word retarded on the logo I asked myself, who calls children retarded in this day and age?Apparently the Memisa group has no problem labelling our kids "retarded".Where are the voices of our officials and educated professionals on this? Where are the NGOs that are supposed to be championing children's rights? Who is looking out for our children?
They go to functions these groups have and take publicity photos. Do they not notice these thing, and if not, why not? I am sure this institution, as with others, receives monies from our various government ministries and others to help with the running of their institution. Officials and others need to take action to ensure that this logo is changed promptly or is removed, and parents should not wear the jerseys of this institution if this distasteful logo is not changed.
This is a disgrace and an embarrassment to our country and its citizens, especially the children who are enrolled in the programmes at this Institution.
