As a concerned citizen living in the USA, I make it a point of duty to peruse the daily newspapers of T&T first thing in the morning. Obviously I am seriously concerned about crime and corruption which have become a way of life in our once beautiful country. I was under the impression that the party in power at this time, the PP under the leadership of the PM, was responsible for the proper management of our nation.
However, whenever a matter of present corruption occurs or there is even a sign thereof it's always, "It is the fault of the PNM". And I ask: when will this government take full responsibility for the many crimes and other ineptitude that have been birthed during it's tenure? The people of T&T need to remind this administration that they came into power on a promise to make life better for all.
The other question to be answered: are things better now than they were before the PP, or are they worse? Murder rate is among the highest as per our size anywhere; corruption, nepotism, square pegs in round holes, any form of malpractice you can think of, this government is guilty thereof. If in fact they have the interest of our country at heart, they should admit their failure even in incessantly comparing their tenure by referring to their favourite scapegoat "the PNM".
History will laugh at us for accepting bad governance because of past governments of like quality. Once more I must quote from the book written by Herbert Agar, The Perils of Democracy, that a government must be held responsible for the conditions they found and criticised when the came into office and which continue and worsen during it's tenure. Is Germany still blaming the Nazi party and Hitler for the atrocities committed prior to the many ensuing administration as of this date?
