The most challenging work for the Prime Minister and her team at National Security is to achieve favourable trends in curbing crime. The gains have been small to date but it is still not necessary to walk blindly into the political quagmire that will see the Partnership Government listed on the World Wide Web as advocating military control of non-government supporters.
I was under the impression that Minister Gary griffith was in control of this initiative and he should be allowed to press on with whatever strategies he has been trying, without going down the road of granting powers of arrest to soldiers.
At this crucial juncture, with one year left to give favourable crime figures, the Partnership Government may see itself going down an unfavourable political modus operandi where the losers will be the Prime Minister and the general population.Mrs Persad-Bissessar has struggled too hard to arrive at where she is today to have to be seen as the "fall guy" where unpopular decisions end up by being placed at her feet. The electorate is an unforgiving master. Rampant crime was not arrived at in one day. The cure for crime is ongoing and will take several years. Whoever wins in 2015 will have to deal with crime at the top of the political agenda.
It would be far more impressive to enter the history books with the enormous gains made for galvanising enhanced education for all citizens rather than be returned to office for cruel and outrageous victimisation of hapless citizens.Who steals the political purse for all the wrong reasons, steals trash.
