On my way to work on June 5, at approximately 7.05 am, the traffic came to a screeching halt on the Sir Solomon Highway. My first thoughts were that there was possibly an accident ahead and waited until it was time to move on. As the cars began to move slowly I realised that it was not because of an accident but a cute, adorable, puppy trapped on the highway. I decided to stop my car and rescue the puppy which looked dehydrated and underfed.
Although it was dangerous for me to stop my car on the highway I thought for a second what would possess someone to abandon a fragile looking pet on the highway to meet his/her fate? Thankfully the motorists behind me were kind and patient enough to allow me to rescue the puppy and place her in my car.
A few days after this encounter as I was travelling on Lady Young Road, Morvant, I came across another puppy dodging the flow of traffic. Some drivers stopped to allow the puppy to wander across the road. On my return to the same spot a few hours later the puppy lay motionless on the road.Over the past few days, a lot of dogs have met their fate on the roadways. I am appealing to pet owners that if you cannot afford or would no longer like to own your pet, kindly take it to a shelter where it can be cared for.
I am happy to report that my colleagues at work have adopted the puppy which now responds to the name of "Lucky". I urge you my readers to allow yourself the joy of an experience such as this.On behalf of all puppies who have been rescued (and will be rescued) I say thanks to you all.
