Mr Manning gave as his reason for not accepting the award, the fact that many things were said about him during the last general election by the Opposition. I wonder, since Mr Rowley also lambasted him and threatened a mutiny, that if the PNM gets back into power and offers him this award if he would refuse it on the grounds that he gave.
In an election campaign opponents do not praise each other. Mr Manning should reflect on the treatment he gave to Mr Chambers and others who served the party well, but then again that is not PNM style. One should remember the treatment that Dr Williams gave to CLR James and others too.
Maybe this is done to keep others in line. In other words "not a damn dog bark" and "who don't like it get to hell out of here." Also, one must remember the treatment of Ulric Lee by Dr Williams, so it is no wonder how Albert Gomes was treated.
