Living in harmony and peace in your neighbourhood may seem elusive but there is help available to realise your goal.More than a year ago, a neighbour in our residential area in Marabella, started a car garage/mechanic shop. No less than 15 wrecks of cars were parked in the former garden, and cars and trucks were parked in front of our house.Children walking to school on mornings had to dodge traffic as there was no clear view of the street, and evening walkers had to weave in and out.
One day my 71-year-old father who has problems walking, returned from a doctor's appointment to find that our gate had been blocked by a wrecker offloading another crashed vehicle. His sisters, who had taken him and are slightly less doddering, had to slowly walk him from the road into the house.A constantly-smoldering garbage heap in their back yard filled our house with acrid smoke night and day, and twisted bumpers and old tyres lined the side of the house our front door opened onto.
The last straw was when a relative came to visit and found there was nowhere to park in front of our house. She got in touch with San Fernando City Corporation and a health inspector was promptly sent to assess the situation.Within days, the neighbours had to stop parking in front of our house; the burning stopped and they were warned that all garage activity must cease. Within a couple of months they were made to sign a document that stated all mechanic work had to cease and be moved to more suitable premises.
Thank you San Fernando City Corporation for your timely and efficient work.
