We the commuters in the south want the construction of the entire highway to Point Fortin. We read about these do-gooders who are in sympathy with Dr Kublasingh and his hunger strike but most of these people live and commute in the north of Trinidad where they enjoy four-lane and six-lane roads.
The fact is these people have not got a clue as to the extent of suffering we the commuters in the south and deep south experience just to travel few kilometres on a daily basis. We need, and in fact demand, the highway and especially the Debe to Mon Desir segment be built. What we in the south will no longer accept is second-class roads consisting of cane field roads, tasker roads, traces and oilfield roads; and certainly not just connector roads that he proposes.
Imagine, all we have had with successive governments is the Mosquito Creek, the SS Main Road and a most dilapidated road from Rio Claro to San Fernando. All totally inadequate to handle the current volume of traffic. We have not had one single decent road built in the south for decades, and please, the Ring Road is a cane field tasker road!
So Dr Kublasingh, you and your followers should go somewhere else and find something useful to protest about but leave us in the south to dream of the day when we will have a comfortable driving experience. You do not represent the hundreds of thousands of people living and commuting in the south and if you wish to be a martyr to the cause, then so be it!
