As I view images of environmentalist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh becoming more emaciated with each passing day, I am saddened and admittedly afraid that this patriot, who is simply requesting that an earlier promise by the PM to abide by the findings of the Armstrong Committee Report on a feasibility study of the controversial highway, may actually come to his demise waiting for the PM to fulfil her promise.
Can Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, a woman who has consistently boasted of her inherent compassion, her ability to listen, to learn, to admit when she has made a mistake or misstep, a woman who attributes such praiseworthy characteristics to the notion that she is a mother and grandmother, ever justify her refusal to address a meritorious issue that affects not only this noble man, but impacts all citizens of Trinbago, who can benefit from a constructive redirection of $1.6 billion and preserve the environment for future generations?
Will the PM rediscover her inner compassion now that the heads of the Catholic and Anglican Churches together with several civil society groups, have now publicly voiced their concern and disappointment with the manner in which she has chosen to address Dr Kublalsingh and his heroic effort?
One thing remains certain, the invaluable effort that Dr Kublalsingh has singularly made will make Trinbago a better place, his sacrifice will not be in vain, and to borrow the macabre words of Devant Maharaj in the Senate recently, I sincerely hope the good doctor's blood will not be "dripping off the fingers" of anyone's hands.
