I have never had reason or inclination to write to the editor but an incident on the highway compels me to express my sincere appreciation to officers of the Highway Patrol.
On Wednesday I had the misfortune to encounter the errant driver of a flatbed truck at about 5 pm on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Orange Grove.
The driver was ostensibly in a hurry, switching from lane to lane before finally settling on the right lane, dangerously close behind me.
The speed of my driving seemed to annoy him, as he made an attempt to overtake, but he was unable to do so before we came to a stop at the Trincity intersection.
He promptly put down his window to voice his displeasure and when the lights changed continued his erratic driving with the sole purpose of cutting in front of me.
Needless to say in traffic, this was a perfectly futile endeavour. By the time we approached the Mausica intersection, he was so incensed he drove on the shoulder so that he could drive intimidatingly behind me.
Thankfully, as we approached the Arima race track, I observed a highway patrol car and slowed down to inform the four occupant officers of my ordeal from Trincity to Arima.
The WPC who was driving immediately acknowledged my concern and was able to pull over the truck driver, who attempted to cross the traffic lights at the Tumpuna Road intersection before he could be caught.
I thank the officers for their quick response in putting an end to road rage that could very easily have ended badly. To the errant driver, I hope that in future you will let good sense and common courtesy prevail.
