Single fathers have taken a bold and courageous stride in making their plight public to the nation at large. This is not only commendable, but noble on their part. It is certainly refreshing to hear that they would like to play a greater part in the lives of their children. Children need their fathers' presence in their lives.
However, have we ever thought how many of these dads found themselves in such an unfortunate situation? Perhaps it wasn't their fault that things turned out as they did. Perhaps they did get the sticky end of the stick.Maybe their spouses used the long limb of the law and took advantage of the half-baked 'domestic violence' law when they really wanted to get poor dad out of the house to conduct extra marital affairs.
Perhaps the law enforcement officers helped to get them out of the way just to pave the way for their advances. Or perhaps the judicial system found favour with the mothers because they can cry crocodile tears more easily and convincingly. Or just maybe most of the magistrates' positions in T&T are filled by female magistrates.Who knows? Poor dads. What an uphill task. I wish them all the luck.
