I listened to Dr Morgan Job on radio yesterday morning. He was commenting on Roget's failed march on corruption. He was making the point that changing the Government would not magically make corruption disappear. Most importantly changing a government always has a serious impact on the economy of the country, especially the construction industry.Everything comes to a standstill. It takes two to three years, sometimes longer, to recover from a change of government.
Moreover, with the price of oil where it is, it could be fatal. The fact is that corruption is endemic throughout our society. Do not believe for one moment that it is only politicians who are corrupt. You can buy your driving license, I believe the going rate is $1,000 dollars. Transfers are $500.
Ask any contractor, large or small, bidding for a contract. They have people lining up with their hands out claiming to be "pardners" of this or that Government minister. Anybody ever checked the scales in the markets to see if you getting the right weight? And what about that report the Prime Minister read out last Friday in Parliament on the leader of the "march."
If that report is true, was he not corrupt? You get the point. From top to bottom, corruption is upon us and it's not going away any time soon.
