While channel-surfing recently I came across the televised broadcast of the Las Alturas Commission of Enquiry. I counted no less than five lawyers appearing on behalf of the State, Jagdeo Singh doing the interrogating at the particular time. He seemed to enjoy his role enormously, well aware the proceedings were televised, it appeared.
I could make no sense of the line of questioning, and my memory returned to the Clico Commission of Enquiry, where it was later discovered the cost was in the vicinity of $100 million. What were the repercussions of the former inquiry? What did taxpayers get for expending that sum?
I can only shake my head and am tempted to scream as our tax dollars continue to be squandered and unaccounted for. How could a responsible government authorise this wastage of public funds when the disabled in our country continue to suffer for basic services like ramps and working elevator? The elevator at a school for the disabled highlighted in a nightly news report remains inoperable and those children continue to crawl on hands and knees to get to the upper floor. And what is the cost to taxpayers for this latest inquiry?
When will the Government put aside their selfish interests and take care of the vulnerable in our society? When will we get a government that respects its people?
