This is an open letter to the Prime Minister as she announced the opening of hunting season during a political campaign meeting.I am a landowner and a farmer and for me this marks the beginning of a nightmare. The Prime Minister has the luxury of 24-hour police protection, thus ensuring that people cannot even pause for more than a few seconds in front of her home and property.
Yet ordinary citizens are not so fortunate. People with guns from all over the country descend upon private property under the pretext of hunting. Many are robbers, praedial larcenists or simple trespassers.Over the years we have had many sleepless nights and suffered countless losses with people in our backyard "hunting." It is high time that limits be set on those who choose to hunt and who claim to be hunters. Clear specifications must be made to the public that hunting should only be on state lands/forests or where otherwise allowed by the deed holder only.
It is quite clear that she is only interested in racking up votes as opposed to serving the people as she claims. If the Prime Minister cared about the population, she would have ensured that farmers and owners of private property are given the protection they deserve from hunters. It should be made clear that hunters cannot trespass in private lands under any circumstances, in or out of hunting season. Come on, Prime Minister, put the people of the country first and set the politicking aside for later.
