Having returned to Trinidad after living in the United States for 45 years, I am continually flabbergasted by the daily stupidity that passes for policy in this country.Besides Isis in Syria and the Taliban in Afghanistan, which other country destroys its historical sites? To think that someone would actually agree to the destruction of a site with such important significance in the history of Trinidad and Tobago is totally mind boggling.
I cannot think of a more blatant display of a total lack of pride and nationalism by agreeing to the reported planned destruction of the historic Chaguaramas Convention Center, all in the so-called name of development. In that same vain, maybe we should knock down White Hall around the Queen's Park Savannah and put up a Mc Donald's or replace President's House with a parking lot for events at the savannah...neither location is currently being utilised.
It's that lack of patriotism which has Trinidadians saying "hi" instead of "good morning," wearing tall boots and thick sweaters while talking about "summer sale." Trinidadians don't seem to realise that Trinidad is NOT the 51st American State! The Chaguaramas Convention Center is OURS, all Trinidadians, and NOT for ANY government, UNC, PNM, COP, PP, ILP, or any other entity to just sign away without the consent of the people. History records an event in 1806 in Chaguaramas...tread carefully!
