It is to be hoped that the several new vehicles purchased by the Fire Services will significantly improve its ability to cope with the increasing number of wildfires throughout the country. Perhaps the Prados and the Lexuses can be outfitted with tanks and hoses so that the Fire Services top brass can be driven to fires in comfort and luxury.
The pitiful sight of firemen struggling with leaking hoses, malfunctioning vehicles and pumps is enough to give any citizen nightmares. Blaming the firemen for the failure of the Fire Department is placing the blame in the wrong quarters. The real failure lies at the doors of the people who decide that luxury vehicles are more important than proper fire-fighting equipment.
