When Minister Vernella Alleyne-Toppin made her startling revelations in our Parliament a few months ago, there was widespread condemnation from all quarters, notably the Roman Catholic church demonstrated by their most radical servant, the most reverend Clyde Harvey. His Good Friday silent protest at the compound of Parliament building, Port-of-Spain, attest to this.
Perhaps his mission received the blessings from his superior, I cannot say and so all I am able to do is speculate. However, what I do know is that with the most recent revelations of corruption levied by the Federal Bureau of Investigations concerning his financial improprieties while a high-ranking executive of Fifa, there has been a resonance of silence from this hallowed institution–Mr Warner being a prominent member of the Roman Catholic church.
It is known that Mr Warner has extended his generosity to our "beloved faith" for every Sunday at 5.15 am, he and his family, like mine, attend mass at Mount St Benedict. Perhaps the anti-government sentiments must remain on the front burner, alive and kicking, irrespective of who the proponents are. Apparently the "church" has adjusted its conscience to suit this situation. There is absolutely no condemnation levelled at Mr Warner.
What a moral travesty perpetrated by the church. Nevertheless, may Almighty God continue to bless our great twin-island republic.
