From my childhood days it was blasted into my ears and understanding by parents and elders, that jail is a place where you go when you have done something severely wrong in society. Jail is a place where discipline is enforced, you being sent there by the courts of Trinidad and Tobago.
From my confused state of mind, things seems to have changed. The tail is now wagging the dog, where the inmates are controlling the system and are being protected by the courts of T&T.
From what I have been seeing via the electronic media, prisoners are attacking the prison officers violently and asking for redress from the courts. Who created this mess when prisoners are on remand for ten years? The Judiciary.
Is this development or a "dont care" syndrome? As I said recently, our institutions are cracking up.
