More prevalent than all the other crimes committed in the country is noise pollution; but because the victims of noise have not or are yet to run amok and commit mayhem against the offending and offensive perpetrators, nothing is being done by those in authority who have turned a deaf ear, switched off their hearing aids and are playing more dead than alive when they should be tuned in to the cries and pleas and anger of the population begging for drastic action to be taken against the lawless and the noisy.
What makes this situation such a potential tinderbox is that there is no agency or authority that a citizen could go to for redress. EMA offer only excuses why in any given situation they cannot be of any help.Mobile noise hooligans pass in front of police stations, police officers and police patrol with impunity, banging away their music without fear that they might be pulled up and at least be charged for disturbing the peace.
You see this and you understand how in some communities in Central Trinidad the news is, the police are forbidden from entering. For isn't it true that when law and order breaks down in a society, something else must replace it?T&T must not feel that we are totally immune from such diabolic possibilities.
