Violent crime will increase here simply because in the first place we have no effective deterrent.
Imprisoning our local murderers for life on this island has no effect whatsoever on containing the murder rate.
Almost all of our violent citizens come from a background of crime and poverty.
To almost all local violent criminals, living behind bars here is considered a cushy number and a life of leisure and comfort.
After all, they have full medical attention, companionship, entertainment and a supply of drugs and contact with the outside world through the mobile phone.
The prospects of things getting any better here is rather bleak to say the least, which is generated by corrupt lawyers, policemen, judiciary and indecision by our senior politicians from both sides of the fence. The media, too, because of is embedded political party allegiance has so far failed to play its part, despite the fact they are now the only hope of bringing the politicians to their senses in order to change the situation.
Criminals here feel they are protected from the gallows and have almost no fear of assaulting, harming, maiming, robbing or killing their countrymen regardless of colour, class or creed.
The human rights organisation has to shoulder a lot of the blame for what is going on here, and in other parts of the world. They have given the authority to politicians and people of status to use their policies, ideas and suggestions to protect criminals who now have the upper hand.
