The statement made by acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams that serous crimes is dropping is so incredibly ridiculous, even laughable if it wasn't so serious, it simply defies logic. The murder toll so far stands at 200, and we are only in July. That figure is more than many first world and other Caribbean countries per 100,000, ours at 28 per 100,000. Mr. Williams is reasonably contented that 20 fewer murders for the same period last year is a just cause for being optimistic.
Looking at the statistics from International reports for murder rates per capita, Trinidad is notoriously ranked at no#13 out of the 25 most murderous countries to live in the world. The report also noted that Trinidad is the 3rd richest country in the Americas only behind USA and Canada. I personally have been touched by this. My baby brother was murdered on June 9, 2012, he was 28 and it stills burns me inside as if it happened yesterday, there is no closure apart from the knowledge of God, because as I said the detection rate is nearly non-existent.
Our Politicians/Leaders over the past 53 years of Independence have mostly failed us the citizens of this rich, rich island. Mr. Williams I'm afraid that history in Trinidad has taught us over more than ten years concerning murders that it is not getting better, despite your optimism that it is.
