On behalf of the pensioners who have not received their pensions for the last three months I would like to thank Mr Chester Sambrano of CNC3 News for taking the time to highlight this unpleasant situation.Thousands of Government pensioners have not received their money. What they have received are empty promises on their numerous visits to the Treasury.
We have served our country faithfully. As teachers, my brother Kenrick Frederick and I have served for 40 and 35 years respectively. In fact we are still serving by giving free lessons to underprivileged students. We have paid our taxes.
While we have prepared adequately for our retirement, it is the principle of this whole fiasco which is disturbing. What about those elderly pensioners who have no other resources and who anxiously await this pittance to pay their bills and buy medication? This is another example of the callous disregard with which senior citizens are treated in this country.
At least the authorities in the Pensions Department could have informed the retirees in advance via the media that no money was forthcoming. In disgust at having received no adequate information, some pensioners decided to turn to the media.Thank you, Mr Sambrano, for championing the plight of the elderly.
