I have this sickening feeling most media houses are straining to portray T&T as a sick society.Day in, day out, night after night, the stuff chosen to headline prime time news is so gory, it's possible Hollywood's Sam Peckinpah is the one writing the scripts. If stomach-churning happenings are all media houses can find to use as their lead stories, when will they undertake a professional diagnosis and prescribe a cure? It must be that the media's news-producing core has lost its balance and is falling apart.
Absorbing their news menu protractedly is a surefire recipe for prolonged depression. Thank God for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! which begin promptly at 7 pm and run for one hour! I turn to them regularly to avoid being turned off by local TV/radio news. But, I haven't given up hope on the homegrown media.
They ought not despair about me either. I can be recaptured, if they organise their tremendous power to reach out to me intellectually on the crucial issues. For, despite what their producers think of us, we Trinbagonians are predominantly men and women of healthy compassion, honour and reason, more deserving of the limelight than the few sick brutes existing, because people get encouragement to keep doing what they're doing when what they do is highlighted in a way that pleases them. One love!
