Even I who did not pass GCE (O-level) mathematics could figure out how to put together a budget for T&T. You need a working computer, a good calculator and the hope that T&TEC will not cut off power. You next need copies of all past budgets and a basic understanding of accounting. Profit and loss is a must.
Once you can add, subtract and multiply, you are good to go. The other important ingredient necessary is to have that focused ability to work all night researching the budgets of countries which mirror T&T. Without a doubt, Minister Colm Imbert is the man for the job of Minister of Finance. He is a successful businessman in his own right, he has been in government for many years and he is known to be a dedicated number-cruncher who does not sleep until he has chased down and verified every bit of information. There is no area of governance that he cannot speak convincingly about. Why anyone should question his suitability to the task at hand beggars belief. His contributions to debate on past budgets have always been spot on.
Minister Imbert is the sort of perfectionist at whatever he does which should assure everyone that he would be successful at any ministerial position assigned. If I had any money I would offer him at least ten million dollars for his expertise. But Colm Imbert does not need sweeteners, he is the man who co designed, presented and explained the impressive 2015 PNM manifesto.
